InfamyInfamy reviews PitRok Natural Deodorant for www.minkbaby.co.uk

We reviewed PitRok Push Up Crystal Deodorant back in early January 2009 and asked people to write in with their own reviews of this (or any other) natural/eco product.

InfamyInfamy got in touch with this review, and very useful it is too:

What made you try PitRok for the first time?

I wanted to try it because I am concerned with the harmful stuff they put in conventional deodorants.
Also I think my old roll on may have blocked pores and not allowed my skin to breathe.

Did you think it would work?

I was very dubious at first that it would work and therefore was extremely surprised when it did.

How did PitRok perform?

The PitRok worked extremely well.

  • I have had no underarm odour
  • No white marks on dark clothing.
  • It is extremely easy to use: you can either use it directly on to wet skin after a bath or shower, or wet the end and use it on dry skin.If using the latter method it is best not to over wet it as otherwise water dribbles down your sides!!
  • The product feels like any roll on deodorant without it catching on your skin as it turns. - it’s smooth to use.
  • The crystal looks very striking but also businesslike.

Would you recommend it to others?

I have been telling family and friends how good this product is!

I would recommend this products above all other eco products that I have tried. It really does work!

Do you think PitRok represents value for money?

The PitRok crystal deoderant costs between £5-£6, which at first would appear quite costly.

I have been using the deodorant daily for a fortnight and it shows no signs of usage, therefore the company’s claim that it will last along time would seem accurate, therefore it is good value for money.

Where would you be most likely to buy your PitRok from?

I could not find it for sale on the Isle of Wight therefore I would need to purchase it online. The PitRok website is easy to navigate and appears to be user friendly.

Does it seem to you to be a company that is genuinely interested in providing ethical, eco-friendly products?

I think it is a very ethical company that is providing a genuinely eco-friendly and unique alternative to ordinary products.

I saw recently that it was featured in an episode of Dick Strawbridge’s ‘Its not easy being green’ TV programme so it has good credentials.

The packing does not suggest that it is reusable or recyclable or biodegradable, however there is no excess packaging: just the tube and lid.

When using the product I felt that I had a clear conscience with regards to the environment and animal testing, and that I was at last using something natural.

In return for this eco product review InfamyInfamy will receive what she asked for, which was one tube of 100% Natural Organic Peppermint & Myrrh Toothpaste.

Currently we have five more tubes to give away in return for suitable eco product reviews.

PitRok Push Up Crystal Deodorant - Natural Deodorant Review (2 Reviews So Far)

Scratch and sniff?

Scratch and sniff?

Several years ago, following all sorts of reported health scares associated with the use of chemical deodorants and antiperspirants, I spent some time looking for a natural deodorant that worked (i.e. didn??t leave me stinky,) and didn??t manage to find one. To be fair, I??m not sure I was looking in the right place (i.e. the Internet) but now I??m on the prowl again and decided to give PitRok a try.

Pitrok Push Up Crystal Deodorant

PitRok Push Up Crystal Deodorant

As most people report when trying this product for the first time, I was dubious, but it works really well!

  • PitRok deodorant prevents bacteria from multiplying without blocking pores ?? no bacteria no odour!
  • Excellent, extremely long lasting protection leaves no white marks on clothes and dries quickly while allowing the elimination of toxins.
  • Does not contain aluminium chlorohydrate or aluminium zirconium, only pure mineral salts.

How does it work?

  • Body odour is caused by bacteria breaking down the waste material in perspiration.
  • PitRok’s bacteriostatic action works by inhibiting bacterial growth on your skin, not by masking odour or blocking pores. No bacteria means no odour. Your clothes stay fresher too. PitRok works with your body - not against it.

Easy to use

  • PitRok Crystal is available as a simple crystal, or in a convenient push-up holder. The crystal also forms the base of the sprays.
  • Simply apply immediately after your bath or shower to protect against bacterial growth. When using the crystal you may find it easier to apply the dry crystal to wet skin ?? otherwise the crystal must first be moistened with clean water.
  • All that is left is an invisible layer of mineral salts. You can’t see it or feel it but PitRok keeps working all day long. There is no stickiness or residue. It leaves no white marks on clothing - not even on black.
  • Effective on feet too!

Kind to you - great for sensitive skin

PitRok does not contain aluminium chlorohydrate or aluminium zirconium that many people find irritating. PitRok does not block pores - so does not interfere with the elimination of toxins.

This one is odourless, which has its advantages as there is no possibility of perfume/deodorant clash. I might try one of their fragranced spray versions but am perfectly content with this one for now.

I like the fact that it comes in a roll-on type format ?? it??s a crystal that you either apply to freshly washed arm pits, either by wetting the crystal or leaving your arms pits wet and applying the PitRok straight away.

It totally works, it doesn’t rub off on my clothes, I don’t smell bad (so far), and I am reducing the amount of chemicals I put onto/into my body - I also get the feeling it’ll last for a while, which makes this eco purchase a bit of an investment to boot!

Ali, The Eco Worrier, Taking the Eek out of Eco-Friendly

Tidy your room!

Home

My name is Ali and I am an Eco Worrier.

When I think about green issues for too long, I become eco-freaked-out.

  • I worry about having too many lights in my house.
  • I worry about how much petrol I consume.
  • I worry about the nappies I am sending to landfill.
  • I worry about the human and animal cost of modern intensive farming methods.
  • I worry about the ice caps that are melting, the water levels that are rising.

You get the idea.

I think about these green issues and I worry.

I worry while driving my car to the shop half a mile down the road; while putting another nappy in the bin; while buying green beans from Tanzania? as if the act of acknowledging the eco problems inherent in what I??m doing is enough to solve them. Which of course it isn??t. So I worry about that too.

I find that this eco-worrying is similar to the worrying I used to do about cancer, often whilst smoking and eating junk food. You know that it is likely to kill you, but you know it won??t kill you right now and so you can enjoy a smoke and a Magnum Double Caramel now (mmm) and make a change tomorrow.

And of course, as everyone??s Grandad always says,

??Tomorrow never comes?

[Or maybe it was only my Grandad that said that]

So one day, I was doing a spot of eco-worrying about the inconvenience, associated stigma and general deprivation that I tended to associate with ??going green??, and the tag line of an old advert started waltzing around in my brain case:

??Change one thing??

I think it was a Boots campaign that coincided with the New Year ?? the idea that you could improve your lifestyle and overall health by going at it gradually.

It makes sense of course, but I didn??t actually do that one, however sensible ?? it didn??t feel extreme enough.

I may not have mentioned that I am extremely extreme.

And then Dr Phil wandered into my psyche and said (in my imagination):

"Extreme huh? How's that workin' for ya?"

??Extreme huh? How??s that workin?? for ya??

And to him I said, as I always do:

??Dr Phil, it??s not working very well.?

And then he said (in my strictly imaginary conversation), words to the effect of:

??If you do what you??ve always done, you??ll get what you??ve always got.?

??If you do what you??ve always done, you??ll get what you??ve always got.?

And I said:

“Oh.”

[These kinds of imaginary pop psychology sessions happen to you if you watch too much Oprah ?? you have been warned]

Having a baby made me decide to stop doing what I had always done. The desire to be a good role model and to be here for my daughter and any other children who might come along, for as long as possible, sent me in a new direction. A bit at a time, I stopped smoking; I started Weight Watchers (then stopped it because it was a facist, alienating experience,) took up exercise and decided to make the transition from Eco-Worrier to Eco-Warrior. Not that I’m looking to become an Eco Evangelist or Verdant Vigilante. I just want to make better, greener, more ethical decisions. It’s very safe, I promise.

I started looking into all the things I could change. I read lots of books. I found lots of ideas. But then I didn??t know which ??one thing?? to choose. Which caused another eco-freak out. Just as I was preparing to re-insert my head into the sand, another helpful whisper swept into my consciousness:

??Easy does it??

What better advice for a person like me - extreme, addicted to wastefulness and dangerous convenience - than advice designed for a twelve step program?

I became resolved to start chipping away at this stuff a bit at a time, certain that within a year I would have made a major, lasting difference to my life and my carbon footprint, rather than going through one extreme phase after another (as I am wont to do).

I decided that the best way to begin was to think about my needs and those of my family, and see what eco friendly products and services exist that can help me wean myself off my addiction to cheap, irresponsible, damaging lifestyles, products and services.

That??s what this blog is about ?? learning how to go from being an eco-worrier to an eco-warrior, taking the eek out of eco-friendly by taking it one step at a time, and reviewing as many eco products and services as possible, so that if you too decide to take this journey, Dr Phil not withstanding, the eco-freak-out factor will be reduced even further.
