Do Energy-Saving Light Bulbs Really Save Me Money?

The short answer to this question is ??YES.?

There are three popular alternatives to incandescent light bulbs: Quartz-Halogen Lights, Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs and Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs.

Below is a four-way savings comparison between Incandescent, CFL and LED light bulbs. Choose the one that best fits your sockets and adds money to your pockets.

Incandescent Light Bulbs: Since there is no such thing as an energy-saving incandescent light bulb, there is no such thing as a money-saving incandescent bulb either. Don??t let anyone tell you otherwise. The bulb that some companies may be marketing as ??energy-saving? are lower wattage bulbs ?? sure they save you a few pennies right now, but you??ll be sitting in the dark.

Quartz-Halogen bulbs: These are glorified incandescent bulbs. They use 10 % less energy than an incandescent bulb and burn brighter, but won??t really save you enough to say ??yippee? to.

CFL bulbs: These bulbs are amazing. I have them all over my house. They cost more up front than an incandescent bulb, but they last 10 years longer and will save you an average of $25 in its lifetime.

LED bulbs: Another amazing invention that I wish I thought of first. LED bulbs last 10 times longer than CFL bulbs ??that??s 50-100 times longer than a regular incandescent bulb! The average savings over the lifetime of the bulb hovers around $750. Yowza! If the CFL bulbs ever burn out, I??m replacing them with LED.
